A preliminary study on the formulation of indicators and definitions of mathematical bitterness related to teacher treatment

Teachers are responsible for helping students to understand and admire subjects, which means they need first appreciate what is supposed be taught. Meanwhile, some intern teachers detest several subjects due the unpleasant treatment received from their tutors. This study intends clarify definition of mathematical bitterness develop its indicators. The respondents were seven third-year at Pelita Harapan University, Indonesia. Data collected using questionnaires interviews analyzed through descriptive qualitative with a phenomenological approach. results showed that indicators in mathematics sprang following, 1) having experienced teacher long time, 2) negative view mathematics, 3) feeling untalented 4) viewing as unfriendly, 5) poor learning performance, 6) high anxiety. proposed perception built accumulation past experiences affect student’s response this subject. Hence, further studies needed provide solutions help heal math bitterness.
